Where every flavor tells a story
Twenty-three years ago, my late mother, Shereen Ben, purchased a small coffee shop in Grand Central Cape Town, which we rebranded as “Shereen’s Cuisine.”
She passionately served the community, especially hosting the elderly on “Parade Day.” After her sudden passing in 2005, I took over the business.
In 2004, I secured a month-to-month contract with Radisson Blu Hotel, providing halal meals for 16 years, despite having no formal culinary training. I learned from their chefs and sourced quality local ingredients. Transitioning from the coffee shop to corporate catering, I faced many challenges as a Black woman entrepreneur and single mother.
In 2016, I registered the business as a Pty and joined Black Umbrella for business training. By 2018, we were recognized as the third-best performing business in Cape Town. We expanded to a new property in Grassy Park, with a new industrial kitchen and an eatery. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we managed to keep trading and retained all staff. Despite the losses, we adapted by hosting small events.
Today, I stand strong and proud as a woman and entrepreneur, continuing our journey onwards and upwards.
